Steps to Membership in the
Austintown Baptist Church Family

We are so glad you have an interest in the Lord Jesus and His Church. A person’s relationship to Jesus Christ is the most important decision they make. In fact, we feel it is so important that there should be some clear communication with every person who seeks to connect with us here at Austintown Baptist Church. The information below will answer questions and tell you all you need to know to get started.

Austintown Baptist receives new members by:

Transfer of membership from another Southern Baptist congregation.

Statement of Faith from a church of similar faith practices. This includes declaring you have trusted in Jesus as your Savior and have been baptized by immersion.

Profession of Faith in Jesus Christ and request for baptism.

The process goes like this:

Those who feel led to connect with this congregation is asked to make an appointment with one of the following: the Pastor, a Staff member, or the current Deacon Chairman. Express to them your desire to join by one of the ways listed above.

During the appointment you will be given information about Austintown Baptist doctrinal beliefs, Church Covenant, and ministries.

You will be given adequate opportunity to ask questions about spiritual matters or church -related policy

We will then ask you to consider the information about Austintown Baptist and prayerfully ask yourself, “Is this the church family God has for me?” Take as much time as you feel necessary.

When you feel this is the church family for you and that God is definitely leading you, you may then come forward during the “Response Time” at the end of every Sunday service. The Pastor will be expecting you and introduce you to the congregation. The above statements are not requirements but a desire of the church.

So there, it is a simple process! We look forward to opening our arms to you. Please call the church office or see any of our ministerial staff to get started.

Important! – If you are sixteen years or younger please be prepared to have a parent or guardian speak to our Pastor before you join Austintown Baptist Church.

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

Man

Genesis 1:27 Psalm 8:3-6 Isaiah 53:6a Romans 3:23 Isaiah 59:1-2

Man is made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. He is the supreme object of God’s creation. Although man has tremendous potential for good, he is marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin.” This attitude separates man from God.

Eternity

John 3:16 I John 2:25 & 5:11-13 Romans 6:23 Revelation 20:15

Man was created to exist forever. He will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God, through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence.

Jesus Christ

Matthew 1:22-23 Isaiah 9:6 John 1:1-5 & 14:10-30 Hebrews 4:14-15 I Corinthians 15:3-4 Romans 1:3-4 Acts 1:9-11 I Timothy 6:14-15 Titus 2:13

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Salvation

Romans 6:23 Ephesians 2:8-9 John 14:6 & 1:12 Titus 3:5 Galatians 3:26 Romans 5:1

Salvation is a gift from God to man. Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can man be saved from sin’s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

Eternal Security

John 10:29 II Timothy 1:12 Hebrews 7:25 & 10:10-14 I Peter 1:3-5

Because God gives man eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives this security.

The Holy Spirit

II Corinthians 3:17 John 16:7-13 & 14:16-17 Acts 1:8 I Corinthians 2:12 & 3:16 Ephesians 1:13 Galatians 5:25 Ephesians 5:18

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily.

The Bible

II Timothy 3:16-17 II Peter 1:20-21 II Timothy 1:13 Psalm 119:105,160 & 12:6 Proverbs 30:5

The Bible is God’s Word to all men. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error.

Austintown Baptist Church has been committed to preaching, and teaching the Word of God, loving and serving people, and fulfilling the commission of our Lord Jesus Christ since 1965. Today our commitment has not changed. More now than ever before the world that we live in needs to hear the truth of God’s Word, and to experience His unconditional love. If you live in the area or should you,we would count it a privilege to have you worship the Lord with us.

Good News -my salvation is not contingent on how well I do or don’t do, but my salvation is contingent on His Life. We are saved by His life, sealed with the His Spirit, and never left out in the cold, nor forsaken. To think otherwise would be arrogant in your own ability to be able to break the spiritual fusion that He fused you with in the first place.

Pastor Chuck Cole

What is a weekend experience like?

Whether it is your first time at Austintown, or you’ve been attending for years, you never know what to expect during our hour long worship experience. From the moment you walk in the door, until the moment you leave, we are committed to a creative, compelling, challenging presentation of God’s truth. Pastor Chuck Cole communicates in a way that speaks to today’s culture. Chuck focuses on how to apply Christ’s teachings to our lives, so we each can experience God’s incredible purpose each and every day. The phenomenal music wraps the weekend message in a relevant way with an amazing diversity of artists and styles chosen for one purpose—to prepare your heart for what God has in store for you.

Core Values

Core values can be thought of as the characteristics that shape a church’s culture. These are the values that will be talked about often among staff members and church members.

We value biblical truth as the only foundation for the identity and mission of the body of Christ. So scripture will be held in high regard and will be the basis of all that Austintown Baptist Church teaches.

We value developing leaders and will invest time and resources into relationships and opportunities to see people grow in influence.

We value creative thinking and will give people permission to create, to try, to fail, and to attempt impossible things, using the imagination to dream big dreams for God.

We value messy ministry and are willing to involved in the lines of people with real needs and problems, in a spirit of love, on behalf of Jesus who modeled this principle throughout His ministry on earth.

We value strengthening families and will seek to equip husbands, wives, Moms, Dads, and kids of all ages to relate to each other in love and harmony in a culture that often poses resistance to family strength.

We value dynamic worship in which people feel the freedom to connect and communicate with their Creator in praise, and in which seekers can observe in an understandable way the presence of God within His people.

We value every-member ministry and will seek to empower the entire membership of the church for ministry to each other according to their God-given SHAPE as well as a mission in the world. Volunteers are the real heroes!

We value cultural relevancy in terms of using new technologies to build bridges between the church and the world around us, and also in terms of learning and speaking the heart language of our community.

We value ethnic diversity and will see every individual as an equally valuable member of the human family, as evidenced in the price of God’s Son for every person and His gathering of a people from every tribe, tongue, and nation to Himself.

We value global thinking in terms of tackling enormous, global issues in Christ’s name as well as church multiplication and will seek to foster a church planting movement that grows far beyond the Austintown Baptist Church family.
